Frequently Asked Questions

1I’m planning on buying a new car. How do I go about adding it to my policy?

Before you purchase a vehicle, we recommend calling our agency so that we can provide you with a quote for that vehicle. That way, you know what effect it will have on your auto insurance policy before you make the purchase. Even in the case of replacing one vehicle for another, we recommend calling our office beforehand because different vehicles receive different ratings. To add the vehicle to your policy, we will need the year it was made, the vehicle identification number (VIN), current mileage, and any financing information if applicable.

2How does insurance coverage work if I lend my car to a friend or family member?

If you lend a friend or family member your car, you’re also lending that person your insurance coverage. If that person has an at-fault accident, you will be responsible for any deductible to repair your vehicle and it could have a negative effect on your auto insurance rate.

3How can I make a payment on my policy?

Allstate has multiple ways to make a payment for your convenience. A payment can be made in person, by calling our office or 1-800-Allstate, through direct mail, or online. We can also arrange for your payments to be automatically withdrawn for you.

4If I have a claim, how do I file it?

We would prefer that you call our office to report your claim so that we can help and be there every step of the way to make sure your claim is handled to your satisfaction. If you need to file a claim or speak with someone outside of our office hours, you can call 1-800-Allstate or file online at

5My child just got his/her temporary permit. Do I need to add him/her to my auto policy?

A child does not need to be added as an operator on an auto policy until he or she is issued their driver’s license after the age of 16. During the period that the child only has the learner’s permit, your child is permitted and insured to drive all vehicles on your personal auto policy as long as a parent is present and has given permission to the child to drive the vehicle.
